CAKE SMASH
Cake smash sessions are a fun way to remember important milestones in your child's life. Traditionally we do the cake smash for your baby's 1st birthday but we can do a cake smash for just about any age.
These sessions take some thought and planning so we encourage you to plan ahead.
WHAT TO WEAR?
We suggest wearing something that matches your theme. We have put a lot of thought into the background and the cake so go all out with the outfit. We are happy to make suggestions so please reach out through a phone call, text or email. Etsy is wonderful resource to buy custom made outfits that will make this session memorable. Amazon is also a great choice. Be sure to order the outfit with plenty of time prior to the session. Please keep in mind that your outfit might get stained or ruined.
HOW LONG IS THE SESSION?
The whole session lasts about 45 minutes. The cake smash part is about 20 minutes and the bath splash is also 20 minutes. Some children warm up quick and we get plenty of photos right away. If that is the case we let them enjoy their cake and we go with it. Other children take a bit longer to warm up. If the child is really not enjoying the experience we will refer to you, the parent, to let us know when to end the cake portion of the session. Another option is you can take the child out of the set and give them a 5 minute break. We are relaxed and have a little wiggle room. If they do cry, we do encourage parents to let us do a few crying photos because these are some of the best emotions. After all it's their party and they will cry if they want to!
WHY DO A BATH SPLASH?
A bath splash comes with every one year cake smash session. Most children love the bath splash. Some children get upset after we take away the cake. In rare cases, when the child doesn't respond well to the cake, the bath seems to save the day. Most children really like the bath, it soothes them and makes them smile. It also makes a fun photo to print out and hang in the bathroom.
WILL THERE BE A MESS?
We hope that your little one makes a huge mess! That’s the whole point of this session, and the most fun part of the day. Please bring wipes, bath towel and an extra clean outfit for them to go home in. While you are wiping your child down we will capture the mess with a final shot of the cake and get the bath water ready.
WHAT DO I BRING?
- Cake smash outfit
- 1 additional outfit for baby to leave in
- Change of clothes for parents, just in case
- Diaper's/Pull-ups & wipes, wipes, wipes!
- Towel
- Sippy cup/drink to help wash down the cake
- Favorite Snacks like cheerios or puffs, in case they don’t like the cake. I sometimes have to hide them in the cake to make it look like your little one is actually eating the cake
- A favorite toy
WHAT IS THE PARENT'S ROLE DURING THE SESSION?
Mom and Dad you are a key part of the success of the session so parents you will be our assistant. We will be working hard to make sure your child, the set, cake and props are placed in just the right way.
Children are quick and curious so we need you close by to help keep them on the set, interested and safe. You will be the makeup artist, hairstylist and over all stylist for your supermodel. We will have you help keep the child in place which means possibly running in and out of the set. If there is more than one parent, we ask that the other parent stand directly behind the camera. If you both can stand behind the camera, even better. Your child will be looking for you. If you are off to the side most likely the photos we capture will be of your child looking to the side and not at the camera. Please be ready to get your hands dirty and help your little one get past all that frosting to the cake underneath!
WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN'T PERFORM?
Your child is in excellent hands and we do this a lot! Children are unpredictable and we are good at rolling with it. We do our absolute best to make your child feels comfortable. We capture amazing photos and you would be surprised at how many good photos we can get even if your child is not loving the experience. We give ourselves a little wiggle room so if your child needs a break, we can give you a few minutes to get up, walk around and then try again. We have all kinds of tricks up our sleeve to help your child interact with the camera. Unfortunately we do not refund or reschedule when the child doesn't perform. You pay regardless and please know we do our very best. It is very rare that we don't get any useable photos.
HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR EATING CAKE?
Our best advise is to practice eating cake ON THE FLOOR before the smash. Your baby is probably used to eating in the highchair so get them comfortable with eating on the floor. If they haven't had cake before you don't want their first experience to be in front of the camera. Eating sugar for the first time can be interesting so try it at home a few times first.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Cake smash sessions are $550 if you choose one of our available backdrops. If you want a custom design upgrades start at $200.
All cake smash sessions come with a complimentary bath splash session. If you choose not do the bath splash your session is still $550.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER?
3-5 days after your session we email you a gallery of all the edited photos from your session.
Galleries range from 50 to 200+ photos.
Your gallery photos will have a watermark on them which will be removed once you choose and download your 10 that come with your package.
Your photos will instantly download.
You can purchase more digital photos from your session and there is also an option to purchase the entire gallery. You can also purchase prints, albums and wall art.
We recommend you download your digital photos to a computer and then to your phone. We have found that the phone download compresses the images.
